How to buy a house (without losing your mind)

So, you're thinking about buying a house. Congrats! This is a huge—and incredibly exciting—milestone. But it's also a big undertaking, and it's important to go into the process with your eyes wide open. To help you out, we've put together a list of things to keep in mind as you start your journey toward homeownership.

1. Don't buy more house than you can afford. Just because the bank approves you for a certain amount doesn't mean you have to max out your budget. Be realistic about what you can comfortably afford, both now and down the road.

2. Get pre-approved for a mortgage before you start shopping. This will give you a better idea of what you can afford, and it will make finding a home much easier.

3. Pay attention to your gut. If something feels off about the house or the neighborhood, trust your instincts and move on.

4. Don't get too attached to any one property. It's easy to fall in love with a house, but remember that there are plenty of other fish in the sea (or, in this case, houses on the market).
